New Delhi, August 8, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 57th Convocation Ceremony of IIT Delhi, congratulating graduating students and their families and urging the young graduates to use their knowledge and skills to contribute to the nation’s development.
Addressing more than 3,000 graduating students, including 587 PhD scholars, PM Modi said that receiving a degree is not merely an academic achievement but also brings a responsibility to contribute to society and the country.
‘Keep Your Curiosity Alive’
The Prime Minister encouraged students to remain curious and continue learning throughout their lives. He stressed that technological change is taking place at an unprecedented pace and that graduates must constantly adapt to new developments.
He urged students to question ideas that are accepted without thought, but also encouraged them to go beyond questioning and work towards finding solutions.
“Those who have the courage to find new solutions to challenges, for them, the challenges will become opportunities,” the Prime Minister said.
‘Life Is Often Completely Out of Syllabus’
In a message aimed at preparing students for life beyond the campus, PM Modi observed that while examinations have a syllabus, life does not. He encouraged graduates to be prepared for unexpected situations and challenges and to approach them with confidence and creativity.
Focus on a Self-Reliant and Developed India
PM Modi highlighted the growing opportunities available to India’s youth and said the country is working towards self-reliance across sectors, including economic, technological and industrial fields.
He said today’s generation has an important role in building a Viksit Bharat, with young innovators and entrepreneurs contributing to India’s technological and industrial strength.
The Prime Minister also pointed to emerging opportunities in areas such as rockets, semiconductor chips and drones, encouraging young Indians to become first-generation innovators in their families.
‘Stay Connected to Your Insti’
Recalling the journey of students from orientation to convocation, PM Modi spoke about hostel memories, friendships, teachers, mentors and campus experiences.
He urged graduates to remain connected with the people who supported them throughout their academic journey and to stay connected with their alma mater wherever their careers take them.
AI and Advanced Computing at IIT Delhi
The convocation also highlighted India’s growing focus on artificial intelligence and advanced computing. PM Modi inaugurated Param Pragya, an AI-powered high-performance supercomputing facility at IIT Delhi’s Sonipat campus.
The facility is expected to strengthen research and capabilities in AI, data science, advanced computing and interdisciplinary research.
PM Modi also presented IIT Delhi’s prestigious honours to meritorious students, including the President’s Gold Medal, Director’s Gold Medal, Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal and Perfect Ten Gold Medals.
The Prime Minister concluded by encouraging the graduating students to dream big, embrace challenges and use their education to help build a stronger, more self-reliant and developed India.
