Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to enhancing the ‘ease of mobility’ for citizens takes a significant step forward with the inauguration of the Mumbai Transharbour Link (MTHL), now officially named ‘Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewari – Nhava Sheva Atal Setu.’
Having laid the foundation stone for the bridge in December 2016, Prime Minister Modi’s vision for robust urban transport infrastructure and connectivity has materialized. The Atal Setu, constructed at a cost exceeding Rs 17,840 crore, spans approximately 21.8 km as a 6-lane bridge, encompassing 16.5 km over the sea and 5.5 km on land. As the longest bridge in India and the longest sea bridge, it marks a significant milestone in the country’s infrastructure development.
This infrastructure marvel is poised to offer faster connectivity to both Mumbai International Airport and Navi Mumbai International Airport. Furthermore, it is expected to substantially reduce travel time between Mumbai and Pune, Goa, and South India. Notably, the Atal Setu will enhance connectivity between Mumbai Port and Jawaharlal Nehru Port, contributing to the region’s economic and logistical efficiency.
The inauguration of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewari – Nhava Sheva Atal Setu stands as a testament to Prime Minister Modi’s dedication to transformative urban development and improved accessibility for the people of India.
